New baby regurges pinky

Hello Everyone,

Beginner Question:

I feed one of our baby corn snakes a pinky last night. (S/he poohed 24-36 hours earlier so i thought she might be ready to eat). She went right after the f/t pinky - at one point she tried to eat it sideways but finally got the idea to go for one end or the other. It looked like s/he struggled a little bit to get it down but it went down at least half her body length. Then everything seemed fine. About 15 minutes later she regurgitated it along with some other pink stuff. I think the pinky might have been a little to big for her. I'm really not sure.

I've read many articles saying don't try to feed the snake again from any where between 3 and 14 days or the snake could regurgitate it again.

What do you all think? Any personal experiences? Any help is greatly appreciated.
 
How long have you had the snake? Also, pooing doesn't necessarily mean they are ready to eat, babies should be fed about once every 5 days. She regurgitated 15 minutes after? What happened between her getting the pinkie down and regurgitating it?(Did you hold her, was she put back in her viv, etc - after she eats she should be put back in her viv and left alone for atleast 2 days.) the biggest food you should feed your snake will be 1.5x the girth of the biggest part of her body. I believe theres a weight chart somewhere around here too.
 
She was brought home the day before we feed her. The last time she ate was 7 days prior. After feeding her she was left in her cage(viv). My other snake we wait a few days to handle him after eating - we were planning to follow the same plan. The pinky was right at 1 to 1.5x the size of the largest part of her body.
 
That is your problem. You should give your snake 7 days without handling or feeding after you acquire them. Just leave her alone for a week and try again. :cheers:
 
Maybe that is the problem. But the other snake i have (from a cousin clutch) came home and pigged out...? The other thing is the snake went through a 5 minute drive versus being fed-exed. Next time I'll definitely extent the waiting period post arrival. Thanks for the Data!
 
It is always advised to allow a new snake around a week to settle in to it's new home, before any handling or the first feeding attempt.

You really need to make sure this doesn't happen again, one regurge is bad, two or more could mean the death of the snake, so please be really careful and follow Kathy Love's regurge protocol, after leaving the snake alone, with no handling etc for at least 10 days.
The reason I say 10 days, is because it takes time for the gut flora to replenish itself and without that, the snake will not be able to digest the next meal. I have fed a regurger at 7 days post regurge and I believe it wasn't long enough after the regurge, as the snake went on to regurge again, the snake didn't make it.
