New First Time Snake Owner

Hi. My name is Rachel. I live in Ohio. I just got a new baby Corn snake. His name is Kai. I am a first time snake owner so I pretty much only know what I have read. So any help would be great. Kai's tank has a heat pad as a heater right now but a heater for the side of the tank should be here soon. Kai's tank also has a thermometer and a couple hides. I am not sure whether or not Kai is a girl or boy. I fed him for the first time on Friday and he ate and didn't regurgitate so I am taking that as a good sign. He seems to be sleeping a lot, or possibly just hiding a lot. I am really excited about having him though because I have wanted a snake for a long time now and have always thought corns to be really pretty!

First time snakes are always exciting!!! I have a Creamsicle Okeete who is a male. You should have a reptile veterinarians number, just in case. If you really wanted to know Kia's gender take him to a vet for a routine check up. That is always a good idea. I would get a second thermometer just in case too. You should have one already, but I just wanted to point out that you didn't mention a water dish, that is really important!!! If you didn't know or don't have it, Aspen makes the best bedding, because after the snake defecate you can easily remove the clump. Corns are nocturnal so when you are watching him or her they are hiding or sleeping, so if you want to see them moving check on them at dusk or nighttime. Good Luck!!! :)

I do have a water dish I just forgot to mention it. I will look up reptile vets number and do some research on what people have to say about the ones in my area. I will look into aspen bedding as well. Thanks So much for the advice :)
