Hello all!

I've recently added a new little buddy (amel corn snake) to the family. I've been keeping herps for about 14 years, but this is my first snake. I've been around them quite often, but never had one in my care for the long haul.

We picked him up (very much a baby) on Friday morning. He explored a bit, and hung out. I have kept handling to a minimum, but he enjoys it quite a bit. He flinches at sudden movements a bit, and comes to your hand in the tank. Saturday (I realize it's early, but I was really unsure when he ate last) he got a pinkie... which he ate pretty quickly and proceeded to hide for the rest of the day. He moved around some that night, but I'm sure is still digesting. I'm going to offer another small pinkie on Thursday, hopefully he will eat that as well as he did the other one.

=)

LOL yep, I would.. Its a great club and great group of people.

But yeah, where did you get your guy from?? and Welcome to CS.com.

he came from (I know I know) PetCo... I had to run in there to get cat food and my girlfriend went over to look at the reptiles and absolutely fell in love with him. I got the "If we don't get him he will probably die, I love that one" speech. Which is weird, because almost all my animals are rescues/adoptions.

I've got 2 iguanas and a leopard gecko, the corn snake, a whole ton of exotic hermit crabs (c. compressus, c. rugosus, c. brevimanus, etc) The iguanas are 14 and 13 years old, both in wonderful health still. The leopard gecko just turned 11. In the past I've had more leopard geckos, and taken care of everything under the sun. I mean everything--- my good friend has had a green mamba, monocle cobra, rhino viper, reticulated, and more as rescues from people who got them and couldn't deal with very, VERY dangerous animals. As a side note- I don't condone venomous reptile trade, but they should go to people who can rescue care for them if at all possible over killing them... (most of his were adopted out to zoos and such)

My mom was a zoologist, and I grew up in the country so you can guess how that went. =)

Most of the herps I've had were ones that I got that were sick/abused and kept them until they were back on their feet before adopting or whatever... chameleons, day geckos, bearded dragons, on and on.

Wow! It sounds like you have quite a collection! I wish we had a zoologist in my family- I probably would have starting with snakes sooner!!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new little snakie!!

thank you all. =) He's eaten twice over the last week, pinkies about 4 days apart. Both times did very well, shed once and has gotten MUCH more active.
