HELLO CORNSNAKE WORLD MY NAME IS STEVEN I JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST CORN SNAKE YESTERDAY IM 17 YEARS OLD. NOW WHAT I NEED TO KNOW IS HOW LONG THE LIGHTING SHOULD BE OF MY BABY CORN SNAKE AND WHETHER TO PUT THE LIGHT ON AT NIGHT OR DAY AND SHOULD I ALSO TURN ON THE HEAT PAD DURING THE NIGHT OR DAY AND SHOULD THEY BE ON THE SAME TIME

12 on and 12 off for the light as long as it's just a light and not a heat light. Have it on during the daytime hours of sun, so the snake has a day and night cycle, but this is not needed if you have the tank in a room with windows where the sun shines through. The heat pad should always be on in some form. You should have a temp thermometer telling you the temp numbers and have a thermostat or rheostat to regulate the heat so it's in the range you want 80-85. Please go and read the care package. This will give you lots of information, which no offense i don't think you know yet. http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72703 Hope this helps, good luck

I would follow the regular daylight hours, like wild snake do. So if it's summer my light stay on longer and in winter, shorter hours of light.
But the amount of light they get per day is not an issue to get hung up on.

Apply the Kiss theory ...Keep it simple .....

Enjoy.

Artificial lighting isn't necessary for Corns that are kept in rooms with natural sunlight. As your heat source is a pad, the lights can go on at your convenience really (they're not doing anything for the snakes).

As far as the heat pad goes, you should use it to maintain a steady temperature gradient 24x7. As you can't be there to turn it off when it gets too hot and back on when it gets to cool, you should invest in a thermostat that will do this for you. Aim to have the warm end around the mid to high 80s.
