I'm a Daddy!!!
Hey all,

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm 26, live in Northern California, and am preparing to buy my first snake. I got into snakes as a kid, and I remembered my science teacher had a corn snake, and I remember holding it for many hours. So since they seem to be more docile and tame, I figured I'd get one.

Planning on buying a hatchling from a breeder in the area, and going to get a terrarium today, scrubbing it down, setting it up.

I'm planning astroturf, with just enough room for a water bowl, climbing plant, and 2 hide-outs. I'd like a light there with a heating rock covered with turf, so that the snake can get warm if he wants, but won't burn himself. I don't have ALL the money in the world for my setup, but am planning on a larger place for him with an auto-temp control, aspen substrate, and all that jazz. This is my first snake as a pet, so I'm really looking forward to this. I read through the FAQ's and I gotta say they were helpful.

If anyone has any other tidbits of info, I'm willing to learn. Take care!

I am a new owner of a Ghost cornsnake

:shrugs

Hi, I have a female Ghost Cornsnake. Her name is Veronica. (I will put up a picture of her shortly) She was born at the end of June/05. She is just gorgeous but I am a little concern about something. I have only had her for 2 weeks now but went and changed her substrate from Bark to Aspen this week. She seems to be OK with the change but when I fed her last week, she ate the thawed fuzzy no problem at all, but now this week, she does not seem to be interested in eating.

Did I do something wrong? I feed her in her tank but I put the fuzzy on a piece of paper towel.

Any suggestions? I had tried feeding her twice in a row leaving the thawed fuzzy in her tank but still nothing. She is scavenging at night and drinks plenty of water.

have you checked out east bay vivarium (berkeley) they were really helpful to us, maybe they can help you. also, they snake may hide under the astroturf, just so you know...
good luck!

OK , I'm confused .you state your planning to use Astroturf then aspen. Well don't use Astroturf, bacteria problems. Stick with aspen. No heat rock please. Use a Under Tank Heater "UTH" . But the idea of a auto-control is good. A thermometer with a probe to check the temp on the substrate is good too. I also use a stick on the glass type for the cool side but I lay it on the substrate to check the temps.
That's a start

Good luck to you

Yes, You jump in on somebody else post. That OK but you will get less responce that way.
Try feeding in a small container and put a little paper towel on the bottom as a substrate, and secure the container with a vented lid. Feed at night in a dim room . Some snake are shy eater and you might have to leave the pinky in for a while. Do a search on the subject using the section section. There are a lot of responses to this question there.

Good Luck to you.
