New viv setup, attach UTH or no?

We are moving my daughter's corn snake to a bigger viv thanks to the recent Petsmart sale on the 36x18x18 ExoTerra, and I wanted advice about the UTH before I set it up.

I adhered the old one directly to the glass in the original viv, but I have since read people prefer to not do so and instead attach it with HVAC/foil tape instead so it can be easily replaced/moved later. Can someone explain in more detail the pros/cons, and how exactly to go about this? Aside from the foil tape, I can't seem to find a consensus on leave paper backing on vs. adhere to foil vs. ? Since we had to get a new heater, now's the time to pick one method over another.

My vote goes to adhere to foil. The one I have is stuck directly to my tank because I didn't know better, but the next one will be stuck to foil and taped to the tank.

I recently bought that same vivarium and obviously had to upgrade the UTH pad. I had the same questions in mind so I tried to put it undertank without sticking to anything to see how it looked. The viv and the mat fit so well I didn't stick it anywhere in the end and it's working ok. The air circulates and no cracks are caused. And I will be able to change the mat quickli withoug getting all the glue on the glass if it should stop working properly.
