Newb corn mommy needs help with screen clips

I just got my first corn last week. She promptly escaped (human error) and my precious snow was gone. My husband, meanwhile, got me a new corn, not sure of the morph because i cant find any similar pics, her name is brownie. My original corn, the snow whom I named Willow, was found yesterday!

Now, I have read enough here to know that I can't keep both corns in the same Viv. I purchased a separate Viv for her, but I can't get the blasted screen clips to work. Right now I have two books weighing it down, but that's not right and I know it.

These blasted things just done work right without me bending it. The clips and the screen came with the Viv that I bought yesterday to house willow in. It's just a 10g for now, as she is still small, and we have no room for a third 20 g right now(in addition to the other corn, we also have a male ball python.)

At ideas? They are non locking screen clips.

Also, and this is weird, do my corns need a black ambient heat light for night time? Willow has the Uth but brownie does not. Brownie just has the heat lamp during the day.

I don't trust those clips, they seem too flimsy to keep a snake in.
I'm assuming you have a zilla screen top? What I did was buy some velcro at the 99¢ store and tightly put it on each side of the top. I have 3 on each long side and 2 on the short sides. (like this)

A night time heat lamp is necessary if you don't have a uth for brownie. It makes them much happier to have it dark than have a bright light shining at them 24hrs a day. I'm sure it would be especially helpful for her to have it be quiet and dark since she's probably pretty stressed from being lost and found :)

Congrats on finding your snakie btw :3

DO NOT RELY ON SCREEN CLIPS! My first corn, a R/O escaped our 10gal also (with two sets of screen clips AND four massive cans on top, she still escaped) only to be found over two months later!
Honestly, my advise would be to sell the 10gal on Craigslist and then head to walmart and buy a tupperware/plastic tub with a click-lock lid. Drill some holes, set your thermostat up to monitor the UTH ( Yes, this is a must have!) and regulate that temp with a thermoSTAT.

Your snake will be happy, it wont escape AND it doesn't take up much room. (You can even slide it under the bed )

Thank you, all! I will grab a thermostat. The Velcro option seems like a good alternative, as willow will be a pet in my classroom, and I want the students to be able to observe her through the glass. I got her as part of a grant to have animals in the classroom.

I have the clips Casey linked to, but also have weather stripping along the edge of the lid. Only take the tape off one side. It makes a nice tight seal!

That is wonderful.

I have Velcro locking the tanks of 2 ball pythons, so far so good.
