Hellow everyone!! My name is Malinda. I live in Fort Smith, Arkansas (not proud of that :sobstory:) I've been snooping around on this site for about 2 months and finally joined. I've received some great advice from you guys. You're just full of good info. I got my first snake, an anery about a month ago. He is a male. His name is Simbi Makaya. He's about 4 months, old 14 inces long and a barely whopping 8 grams. He is a fiery little thing with a viracious appitite. He's a little aggressive, but I would be to if my mom took me to the vet to get shots and probed. Nothing like a good probing to start off your morning!! :bang: He's my baby, anyway!! He's currently my only pet, but I want to get a beardie soon! Reptiles are addicting!! Here are a few pics of Simbi. Sorry they're blurry. They were taken with my BlackBerry, then transferred to my myspace then my computer then here.

What a cutie...and so tiny!

Glad that you delurked and decided to join the fun. Welcome! :wavey:

Thanks for the welcome. He is really tiny. My vet said if he doesn't start putting on some weight we might have to up his feedings!! I feed him every three days as is, which gives less time for handling. After 12 hours of eating he doesn't even have a lump in him.

Hellow Malinda, welcome.
I did the same thing when I came here, I learned what I needed to know just by reading. It's a lot more interesting when you join in.

Oh then I'd definitely bump him up. One of the ways I was taught by the members here was, rather than going to the next size directly, to double the current size. So if he's getting pinks, try giving him two for one or two feedings to help him adjust, and then bump him to the next size.

If you do a search on The Munson Plan, it will give you a good baseline for feeing. You don't necessarily have to follow it to the letter, but it will give you a general idea of what to feed with regard to weight and size.

Good luck with your little guy. We look forward to getting to know you both!

Oh! Similar names AND both from Arkansas! Uh-Oh! LOL! Welcome aboard! I love your little anery! You'll like it here!

His next vet appointment is the 19th. I'm still looking for a scale that can weigh him. He's so tiny I'll probably have to order one online. I'll definitely look into The Munson Plan. My vet (and my mother) also thinks that he's aggressive because he's hungry. I'm suprised he hasn't tagged me yet!!! Thanks for the good advice.

HAHA!! How odd!! We'll definitely cause some mischief (be it unintended or not) with that!!!;) Thanks. I'm wanting some more, but he alone has been an expensive trip!!! I think a little bearded dragon is next on my reptile list.

Beardies are great, but, pretty expensive as well. Actually a lot more expensive than the snakes we own. We don't mind 'cause we love 'em,but, yeah, lots of monies!

Simbi's vet bill has been more than him, his viv, and everything combined. I wasn't expecting a huge vet bill with him. I love him even more for it, though. LOL. I won't get a beardie until Simbi is much older and my wallet a little fuller. If you don't mind me asking on average how much is a beardies upkeep? I've got the price on a viv, accessories and a beardie, but it's a little harder to calculate the upkeep of one.

Well, I think it all depends on whether you get a baby or an adult. Babies eat A LOT of cricketts! They also need to eat those cricketts about 3 times a day. For 25 cricketts it's about $2. A baby will eat about 2x that in a day sometimes! UVB bulbs are also quite expensive and need to be replaced about every 6 months. I just got my beardies last week so haven't really encountered a lot of the costs yet, but, I'm prepared for it.

Ah, I was prepared for Simbi. Vet bills were unexpected, but necessary. I couldn't afford a beardie right now, but maybe in a year.
