Newby snake owner... YIKES ! ! !

Hi everyone…My name is Tana and I am a first time owner of a corn snake. I have always wanted a snake yet never was able to get one until now. I have a beautiful morph / albino juvenile. Actually this is my second snake, in August I bought myself a birthday present from a pet box store and it passed over in 4 days… made me a little gun shy so to speak. My snake seems to be very mellow; it took me a few months to find the snake that was right for me, I bought it at a local pet store that cares about their animals and it’s not all about the money. I have had it for about 5 weeks now and find it to be very interesting. I have not given it a name yet because it hasn’t revealed that to me, I’m sure it will soon. I was hoping through this web site I could get extra help with taking proper care of my new addition to the family. I have some basic knowledge of reptiles, I have owned iguana’s before… yes I do know snakes are different. I have a good solid habitat set up with plenty of room, climbing toys and hides; I have a solid warm and cool side and humidity was an issue until I added some moss into the habitat, which also gave an extra hide. As I was doing some online research I found this site and decided it might be very beneficial for me and my snake to be able to talk to others who own snakes besides at the pet store where they want to make the money and care of the animal does not come first.

Howdy! Welcome to the forums and the joys of snake owning! :} This is indeed a great source of information and help! Lots of great people here, too.

I'm so glad it's not just me that does this! My theory is that if you listen carefully enough, then they'll tell you their names. Some do in the shop when you're looking at them (you absolutely HAVE to buy them when they do that!), some hold out for weeks, waiting for you to learn to hear them properly. I've even given some names and then had to change them later when the snake objected.

Welcome to Corn Snakes! (and the nuthouse....!)

I believe an animal choses us and they give us their names; of course I also believe everything has an energy and is connected in nature. I use this with all my pets. had a cat once that I could not name for almost 2 months, but when she revealed Jewel to me it has fit us ever since. Looking forward to all the information i can get on here. thanks for the reply... looking forward to getting to know people on here.

Hello Tana, welcome. This site will certainly be beneficial to you and your snake, and it's a nice group of people.
Can you get a recording of your snake when it tells you its name? I think my snake is mute, and I'd bet she doesn't like the name Cheerio. ;)
