Hi Everyone
i have had my corn snake (ruby) for a few weeks now, she is lovely.
Yesterday i bought her a bigger tank as she is 4ft long and was kept in a tiny plastic box by her previous owner.
Anyway i put a male in with her to breed but i haven't seen any activity. he followed her around for a while but thats about it.
Have i upset her by moving her and putting in a male?
i'm not sure whether i should take him out again to give her time to get used to her new home first. (or are they being sneaky and breeding when i have gone to bed?)

yes take time take the male out and seperate them for a couple weeks take them out and slowly introduce each other

thanks for that advice, i will take the male out for a while. he hasn't really come out of his hiding place since i put him in.
will i miss my chance of breeding this year if i leave them apart for a couple of weeks?

If they aren't interested in breeding now waiting a week or two shouldn't hurt.

When the male is ready, he will be chasing her around the cage until she gives up. If she is REALLY trying to get away she's not ready yet. Wait another week and try again.

thanks very much, i am greatful for any advice.
I bought the male from my local reptile shop, they have assured me he has been conditioned for breeding. I have seperated them now so i hope i have better luck when i introduce them again. the male is refusing food at the moment, is this normal? could he put a little upset about his surroundings aswell?

It's perfectly normal for a male to go off food during the breeding season. Some will go over a month without eating.

It sounds like you're very eager to breed this year, and I understand, but since you haven't had them for very long, maybe you should keep the female in quarantine a few weeks more and make sure she's healthy. Plus, there's already the stress of moving to a new home (twice), then the added stress of being introduced to a potential mate. Perhaps you should wait until next season and let her settle in. Or even just wait until this summer and have a late clutch. Just my opinion. :)

yes i'm afraid i am quite eager to breed with them, but it wasn't my intentions when i first got my female ( the chap in the reptile shop put the idea in my head, so he is to blame ha) if they don't breed this year it won't be a big issue, i just love having them.
thanks again everyone for the advice
