I have just bought a ghost corn snake two days ago. It's 4 months old and housed in a ten gallon aquarium. My room, thanks to selfish and stupid roommates is on average 60 degrees fahrenheit and dark ( stupid basement), lacking windows. I am heating the tank with a 75 watt heating bulb and a 75 watt infrared bulb at all times. The warm end is on average 80-85 degrees and the cool end is around 73-75 at all times. Here come the questions:
I put my snake into the vivarium two days ago, it cruised around a little and then hid in the hide on the cold end and hasn't moved for two days. I am not certain it knows that there is a hide on the other side, is this okay or should I be concerned for it's health?
Some sources I've read state that the temperature should go down at night or it will get stressed. Is a reduction of only a few degrees okay?
The only way I've descovered for my tank to reach a good temperature is to place a towel on top of a quarter to nearly a half of the screentop, is this okay? the snake's view of the room is not obscured at all.
Your help will be most appreciated! Thanks

I would switch to an under tank heating pad. Corn's don't need any special light. The temps may be correct in the tank but the light may be bothering the snake.

Keeping it with a hot spot of 80-85, cold spot of 70-75 is good. Make sure that there are lots of hides.

Access to water.
Then things should be fine. It might not have moved too much because that it has gotten used to the new environment and likes that spot it's staying in.

I see that you're in London Ontario too. I too am in London Ontario.
If you have any questions at all I can help you out if I know the answer.

Hope that everythings alright for you.

Oh where did you get the snake from?

Yup, :) has had access to water the entire time it's lived there. The ligthing might do it... I bought an undertank heater before the lights and needless to say it wasn't much of a heater. It got the tank up to 72 on the 'hot end' after 4 hours. It was an 8"/8" Heat Wave heater. Can someone recommend a better brand for me? It might have also been the fact that I've only just got the temperature high enough. The high in the hot end was 83 and the other end was usually around the high 60s. When I got it up to 83 with a short high ( maybe a minute before my digital thermometer changed it's mind) of 86, Eden ( my snake) poked it's head out for a little, tongue flicking like mad. Eh, I'm not too worried, it was in rather quiet small rubbermaid container before I brought it here. It's in a bigger container with light and I've got 4 roomates on the other levels, one with a baby who's more of a parrot than a baby right now. Just screams his little head off for fun. I got Eden from Pawley's Reptiles in Waterloo.
Thanks for your help!
