Nonfeeder Hope!

Snowfyre

Snake-getti on the Loose
For all you guys freaking out about your snakes not eating. I'd like to offer a little bit of hope. My runty ghost baby named Squirt ate for the first time this morning. This is her very first meal. No forcefeeding or scenting. She hatched 7-4 and I was going to take her to the kingsnake at the local petstore this week. I threw a pinky in with her just for the hell of it. WHile feeding I found a particularly small pinky and put it to the side. Heading over to try to forcefeed her or at least try to teasefeed her, I saw that she was actually swallowing down what was offered! I think that the reason she has survived so long without food was the colder temps of my living room due to the AC and constant water available. I just figured I'd share. Now to see if she keeps it down.

Congrats!!! I know the feeling I just this minute got my last hold out from the group I got from Rich's out of egg sale. He was was the last hold out, almost all of them ate within the first week but; he held out over a month. I didn't know what I was going to do with him because I am leaving for vacation on Thursday and will be gone for 2 weeks and did't want to leave a non-feeding snake in the care of my friend and have it croak while I was away.

Congratulations again.

That's good news. I just euthanized two that hatched 6-26 and ate their first pink day one out of the egg, then nothing. I'm still holding out hope for the two that hatched 7-13 and have yet to eat anything.

Glad to hear you had some success. I still have three that won't eat. One has never taken a meal on it's own and was forcefed a mouse tail once. It refuses forcefeeding anything now and the other two have had one meal on their own since hatching then nothing. I'll keep trying them on live and f/t though to see if they start eating on their own. Their weight surprisingly is still good and they are a decent size believe it or not. I had one baby returned to me to try to get it feeding and the little sucker eats if you hold it in your hand.....go figure. I've been putting it in dark boxes and everything else and that's all it wanted. As soon as it takes a third meal, I'm sending it back to it's new home. You never know what will get them going!
