Noob with feeding question

I obtained my first snake this past Sunday and am planning on trying to feed him for the first time this coming Sunday evening. He weighs about 20g. The source I got him from had been feeding him one pinky twice a week (Tue and Fri). My question is do I stick with the twice a week feeds or should I offer two pinkies at one feeding once a week?

You need to leave 4-5 days between feeds so that he has time to digest properly. Tue to Fri only leaves him with 3 days, so in your place I'd leave him a little longer.

One pinky per feed will be fine for a while. When it no longer leaves a visible lump in his belly 24-48 hour after feeding, then you can try 2 at a time. There's no need to rush him growing up - you'll have him for 15+ years, so there'll be plenty of time to enjoy his company!

The feeding plan on the link above is a great starting point. Feel free to tweak it if you need to - it's a set of guidelines not a set of absolute rules. It works well for many folks here. Personally I feed slightly less often than that plan, but that's just what's worked for me and mine over the years.

Welcome to a very addictive hobby!

I feed once a week, that gives them time to digest and I get to hold them without getting pooed on for a few days. Hope your feeding goes well

I'm just curious, where did you get your snake from? A breeder or a petstore?

I got him from a locally owned pet store. I'd been debating breeder vs. pet store for some time, but when I went into the store to look at the snakes they all seemed to be healthy and their tanks appeared well kept. So I just opted for the pet store snake.

On another note he just ate his first pinky! Yay! No trouble at all, was very interested in it from the moment I put it in his little feeding container with him.

I was just wondering. I am always curious when people get feeding instructions and such like you did.

I find it more practical to simply feed weekly. It seems that feeding once a week allows the snake plenty of time to digest, but grow at a steady pace. It's better to grow at a slow and steady pace than too quickly.
