Not Brumating Questions!!!

Bug22baby

Snakes and more Snakes
So with recent moving and other things happening right now. I decided that I will not have a sufficient time to put my breeders into brumation. Right now I have been on the go so much that Im only there 2-3 days a week and will be there less over the holiday. My heat is turned down to 50 while Im not home to save energy costs but the rack is heated and the coolside is a lil lower than most when the heat is turned down. I've been feeding them every two weeks as normal and they still continue to eat well.

Questions:
Should I cool them down for a 3 weeks period or is that too short??
Or not brumate at all??

If I dont brumate when will I know when its breeding time for my girls??
Any suggestions or comments???

Thanks
Amanda

I don't understand why there isn't enough time to brumate them. I'd call three weeks too short though.

If I wanted to breed them but decided not to brumate, I'd turn the lights off in the cage area now. Along about mid-March, I'd turn the lights on to a 14 hour day length, pair the snakes up, leave them together for 6-8 weeks, and let them figure out when they are ready to breed. Good luck.

Well I would prefer to brumate them, does anyone know what the minimum amount of time is needed for a sucessful brumation?? Maybe I can whip something up in a closet thats not used.

Thanks
Amanda

Eight weeks is the minimum time that I've heard. Even if the snakes ate yesterday, you could pull them out of brumation by the middle of March. I'd go for it.
