on the subject of hypo's

I was reading the hypo thread and it is a sublect that I really dont understand the make up of either. I have a motley that barely has any black around the dots on her back. It looks like a fine tipped pen outline. If I were to breed her to my male ghost then I would imagine I would get offspring that are het motley and het snow. Is this correct? Then would the F1's bred together produce snow, motleys? Or am I missing something here with the hypo gene tossed into it? I know snows are supposed to be from a red albino and a black albino.

Assuming no hidden het genes...

Motley X Ghost --> All offspring Het for Ghost, Het for Motley
Breeding the offspring together would not result in any 'Het Snows'... there's no Amelanistic gene involved (Snow is Amel and Anery.)

Regards,
Mick

If she really is a hypo motley than yes you will get hypos het motley het anery, but if she is normal than you will get (like Mick said) Normals het for hypo, anery A, and motley.

Ghost is the result of having recessive pairs of the hypo and anery A genes. And (again as Mick said) snows are the result of recessive pairs of Amel and anery A.

Just to note then, if you bred a snow to your ghost you would get anery A's het for hypo and amel.

Make more sense?

Thank you

Ok so the real question should be is wether or not that motley is infact a hypo. Do any of you know if it is typical of a motley to have such a small black border on the "dots" it is the only black visible on her and like I said is comparible to a very very fine tipped pen mark around them. I dont recall about the belly pattern but there is no other black or dark marking on her anywhere. So I am at a loss as to wether that makes hypo or not.

It's common for Motleys to not have much of a border around the spots. Clint Boyer is working on an Okeetee Motley, but even that line doesn't have a huge amount of black outline.

The motley gene itself seems to reduce the amount of melanin in an animal. I'd not count on your snake being hypo unless you were specifically sold it as such.
