Opinions?

Reptile Chick
I want to start breeding in a few years and need to know everyone's opinion.

I want to make butter stripes so I plan on getting an amel stripe. Now should I get an Amber or a carmel. With an amber I have chances of getting hypos which is what is needed in other breed projects as well as caramels.

Well I guess I just answered my question. Amber is it, two with one stone lol.

i was always told for butters you need a

amel het caramel and a caramel het amel

so for butter stripes you would probably need those two with a striped pattern

Amel Stripe x Amber Stripe withh give you all Normal Stripes, het for Amel, Caramel & Hypo in the first generation.

If you then kept some of those hatchlings and bred them together, statistically you'd get (thank you Marcel Poots!):

28.13% Normal Stripes het Caramel (poss hets for Amel & Hypo)
28.13% Caramel Stripes (poss hets for Amel & Hypo)
9.38% Amel Stripes het Caramel (poss het for Hypo)
9.38% Butter Stripes (poss het Hypo)
9.38% Hypo Stripes het Caramel (poss het Amel)
9.38% Amber Stripes (poss het Amel)
3.13% Hypo Amel Stripes het Caramel
3.13% Hypo Butter Stripes

There are a couple of visual Butter Stripes in that mix, but the odds are very low and if you'd have to wait a few years for them.

Although the odds are logically as above, there'd be a possibility that you might not get Butter Stripes at all - it's down to how Mr Murphy decides to apply his dratted Law that season!

There must be an easier way to Butter Stripes?

gsnakes' suggestion would get you Butter Stripes in the first generation, if you can find the right hets.

Amel Stripe het Caramel x Caramel Stripe het Amel gives:

25% Normal Stripes het Amel & Caramel
25% Caramel Stripes het Amel
25% Amel Stripes het Caramel
25% Butter Stripes
