what might help is telling your mom how much you know about corn snakes....least that what worked on my mom when i asked for my beardie and leo and my two soon to be three snakes. so do some research on corns and then tell your mom how much you know about them...cause thats what got me this far...and it could work for you too.

If you are 27 years old, why do you need your mother's permission? Come to think of it, if you are 27 years old, why are you still living at home in the first place. You should hav your own place by now.

Yeah Becky, where did you get 27 from???
Posting to the wrong thread again? :grin01:

I really believe that getting a job is the key to most stubborn parents' hearts. :) And so it should be, if you're old enough to work, it's your responsibility as the animals' provider to do so. Just my opinion.

I think you need to prove you are responsible and grown up.

Thing is most of us when we're teenagers think we're all grown up but at the end of the day we soon realise we have a lot to learn

I am sure there are plenty of very responsible young snake owners out there, don't get me wrong! and for all I know you would be too, but you need to convince your mum that first.
When parents say no its usually because they feel they know their kids and they don't want a pet themselves and can see they will end having to look after that pet - Ultimately it IS their responsibility until their 'child' is no longer a child. I think any parent should only allow their kids to have a pet if they are prepared to take on the responsibility if their kid gets bored with the pet.

Apologies if that sounds harsh, it is just my opinion.

Indeed, and with every new pet you get, the workload and the cost goes up. If you don't have a job, then your mum effectively pays for them. Getting a paper round or something will make the world of difference and really, they are your pets. You should provide for them.

Not being mean here... I'm trying to help... if you get a job your mum might say yes to a corn :)

excuse me just coz i dont have a job i can afford it

That's the age he had on there when I responded. He changed it after I posted. This is the second time he's had the wrong age--first he claimed to be 83.

Why on earth would you put the wrong age on your profile? What purpose did that serve other than proving yourself to be deceitful?

Persuading your mother--you can start by being honest. Stop lying. Period. That's all I have to say about it.

Your grandad comes up with money and your dad gives you some? That's not YOU paying for it. That is your grandad and your dad paying for it!

And however you meant the "excuse me" part, I said I was trying to help you. Maybe you should be more open to peoples' advice, after all you did ask for it. I feel you need to take some responsibility for your pets instead of relying on handouts from adults.

I've paid for my snake and all his equipment myself...there are plenty of jobs around where I live ;) My village is mainly full of Older people (Note older not old ;) ), and they always have something to do...cutting the hedge, delivering a letter somewhere, washing a car, helping out in the village fete etc...it goes on. Anyway, good luck :)

I have to agree with Becky on this one, it does make you appear kind of deceitful...

Having said that, the people here are just trying to help you, there is really no need to get offended at all. :santa: You post here asking for people's advice and that's what they are giving you. I don't think anyone here is going to phone your mom for you...at the end of the day, it's your responsibility.

Also, try to see things from your mom and dad's point of view, they may know about things you don't, whether it be finances or whatever... I don't know of any parents who will not allow their kids to get something unless there was a very good reason for saying no...I don't think any parent would say no, just to be mean...

My mom was absolutely THRILLED when I got my first snake but that's because she really loves snakes...and I paid for everything myself. (I used to live with her, now live in my own place)

Buying a mouse/fuzzy/pinkie a week doesn't cost much but you still have to go out and buy it so it's time, money and gas (petrol) and you say you have other animals...maybe your parents feel that they are paying for enough at the moment? :shrugs:

Anyway, I don't want to discourage you from getting a snake at all because they are wonderful to keep! :) Just make sure you are getting one for the right reasons and not because its cool to have a snake and they are "easy" to keep... :santa:

Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth... :wavey:

OK WELL ATTENTION EVERYONE THIS ISNT A ANGRY POST BUT I THINK SHES COMING ROUND ,you see im coming into some money well a lot and i said with my money i cud get a corn snake she sed thats a good idea

i really want one but shes says there boring
you only feed once a week and handle,

If your mum thinks they are boring then she knows nothing about snakes.

Tell her to read up on them and then try and say they are boring.

Snakes rule:)

well well well i think you should be sure that you can actually pay for it all the time and if your mum doesn't like cornsnakes well... thats a bit odd but hey respect your parents wishes i always say

My GF thinks snakes are boring too. She says they just sit there, and that's DULL. To some people it is, and by human standards I guess they do lead kind of boring lives.

I just think they're pretty to look at, interesting to watch, and fun to handle and photograph. My choice of a good pet is one that's easy to take pics of- and snakes ARE that.

And as for your mom, when I was 15 I got a job working at a vet clinic and helped my mom pay for our pets. By the time I was 17 I was working at my local PETsMART and not only paying for food, supplies, and caging for MY pets (a bird, two fish tanks and a bunch of gerbils) but also for the family dog as well.

But remember too it costs $$ to heat a reptile cage, so maybe that is why your folks balk at the idea. I do not pay the electricity while living at home, so really my dad is paying to run my two aquariums. I don't think it's THAT much, but still, it's nice of him.

Point is... consider ALL the costs before you buy.
