Petey doesn't constrict.

Hello all! I got my baby corn about 2 months ago, and was wondering something. As I watch other's video's, I notice that their corns will constrict when feeding. My snake does not constrict when it's feeding time. Is this abnormal?

My snake heart doesn't either. She is so laid back. I think it just depends on the snakes personality. But I've heard you can tug the mouse a little bit once they bite it then they may start to constrict..... But this didn't seem to work for heart ha ha. But it's worth a try.

It's good to know that mine isn't the only one! @nocturnalheaven I've tried tugging, but that didn't seem to help either. I'm just gonna go with what you say; He's "so laid back," and still very much a baby.

My male will if you do the zombie dance. My female, well she eats when she damn well pleases. Usually around an hour or so after i put the mouse in there, so she dosent.

I only have a couple which constrict. Energy is precious for cold-blooded animals, so it doesn't make sense for them to expend it when they don't need to. As defrosted mice are already still and not fighting, most Corns will just send them quietly down the hatch.

Our corn Hermes never constricted when he was little, often I'd have to make his dinner do the "zombie dance" to entice him. Now he's around a year old and snatches it quickly from the tongs and coils it up.

My big ones do not constrict if they are in shed. Or if I hold the mouse very still. But if there is a small movement they go absolutely crazy. My hateling doesn't constrict. But another hatchling does.

my first snake would constrict but only as an adult...i don't remember when he started doing it. my current snake doesnt constrict right now either, and doesn't even really strike at her food either. just kinda goes "oh food ok *nomnom*

Most of mine don't constrict. Only Willow has ever done it for me, and she's done it since she was a baby. Half of mine tend to eat theirs butt first. :p

My little guy only constricts if I wiggle the mouse about, if the mouse is still he doesn't bother. So it's like mentioned before they will on you energy when they need to :)

I just feed some FK mice last night and boy did most of the corns constrict! Wow. Also had one hatchling wrap up his thawed pinkie like it was going to fly away. Most of the time, they just eat their dinner.

the first time I fed red he constricted, tonight just fed him for the second time he just swallowed hid pinkie, didn't even constrict even though it was a live one. Was kinda funny to see the pinkies back legs shaking

well I meant it was funny that even though that food was moving and trying to get away the snake would not do what it knows to do, to put they prey down.

My little hatchling Nigel doesn't constrict at all. He just just nudges it gently and then politely eats it. If I jiggle it in the air, he'll strike and grab it, but he has not thrown a coil since I've had him.

I think I read somewhere that snakes use vibrations to see how big the animal is before the decide if its worth the energy to kill it or not..That would explain why some hatchlings dont do it..At my job none of the corn coil until there on fuzzies
