Since many of us are into our corns long term; would you rather get a yearling/adult or a hatchling.

I have yearned for a bloodred forever and am torn. Both hatchlings and yearling are available. Breeding is a passing hobby so that is not a primary concern.

Just curious what the rest of the snake world thinks :)

PERSONELY

If i were in ur shoes and a bloodred came up i would buy it WHATEVER age it was,i personely wouldnt buy an adult over three years old, mainly because of bad habits it may have gotten into such as constant striking, the exception would be if it was being ill treated or something or if it was a morph i realy wanted for breeding purposes..............

Hatchlings are great b/c I'd love to see the color changes as it grows. Also a hatchling would probably be a little cheaper...don't know if money is an issue for you though.
If I wanted to breed it, I'd probably start with the older one so that I could breed it asap. (I'm very impatient)

Well, as you said your in no hurry to breed, i would go for a hatchling. Then you can bring it up how you want and you know it has had a good life and you will also know of any illnesses it has ect... ect...

Also, you can have the pleasure of watching it grow up and develop. Especially with a bloodred you will see VERY drastic changes from hatchling>adult!!!

On the other hand if you did want to breed soon, go for the adult. This way you dont have to wait for a somewhat long time for it to be ready to breed.

I think that getting a hatchling would be best if you just wanted a pet. Raising from a hatchling, I'd imagine, would make you become very, very attached to it.

But, on the other hand, if you're wanting to start breeding ASAP then an adult would obviously be the best thing to go for. However, old habits die hard and owning one from a hatchling usually means a better chance of taming.

You said that breeding wasn't a primary concern: Then go for the hatchling. You'll most probably be much better off.

I don't know why I posted this- I'm just repeated everything that Kris said :D

I would agree with what everyone has said about the benefits of getting a hatchling, but there are other (other than breeding sooner) benefits to getting a yearling. You know that it is healthy enough to have at least lived its first year! Some snakes just won't eat no matter what you do, but a yearling has been eating or it would have long since died. Also, it is more likely to be less stressed by the changes in habitat, and such like.

Just some more to consider . . .Hope it helps :)
