So ..

File>Open>*My image*

How to open another picture and add it on top of the background layer?

I've tried ..

Layer>New layer .. >File Open, but that doesn't open the pic on the layer .. it opens it as a complete different document.

File>Place but this doesn't open the pic in it's original size.

Any help appreciated ..

I've got the Gimp. On the "File" dropdown menu I have an "Open as layers" option that takes me to file selection window.
 
The 'place' option was right, it was smaller because the zoom was only set to 33.33% .. Such a simple solouion .. going to watch tutorials on youtube now ...
