can anyone help me on the lighting that the snake needs.it is one light stretching the hole length of the tank ive been told to leave it on 24/7 is this correct if not please tell me. :shrugs: thanks

Snakes don't need any type of special lighting. The only lights mine have are so that I can see them. I use old fish tank fixtures with fluorescent bulbs in them. No, do not leave your light on 24/7. Snakes need a nighttime, too.

Heating/Lighting

If the snake is in a dark room, light it at least a few hours a day, but turn the light off at night.
Make sure the snake has at least one spot where it can warm up during the day that gets into the mid-eighties, Farenheit.
Lighting and heating are necessarily separate.

thanks for that. one last thing wot is the best bedding to use on the bottom of the tank at the moment i have stones like cat litter? and one more thing the snake is a ghost corn when it is shreading what will its eyes do?? thanks

Ditch the pebbles and use aspen for substrate. Use the Search function at the top of the 'Husbandry' forum, and type in key words such as: substrate, lighting, temperatures, etc.. You'll get answers a lot more quickly than waiting around for replies here. You'll learn a lot as you read the existing threads too. Good luck.

Aspen is the perferred substrate for numerous reasons. Do a search on "substrate" and I am sure you will find plenty of information on the subject.

Going back to the lighting, I bought a timer for the lights for like $10 that I have set so the light is on for 12hrs and off for 12hrs. If the temp. drops at all at night I usually turn on the heat pad warm it up some.

Aspen is not the same as pine and cedar which is usually found in a hampster cage. Don't use cedar, it is bad for them!

thanks.i went to the local pet shop but they only had substrate called carefresh. does anyone recommend using this?

I googled the stuff, and it looks safe enough. But I'll bet it's much more expensive than aspen. I don't like the way it looks either (kinda like industrial sludge).

By the way, this product is mentioned numerous times in many existing threads. You could have had an answer in less time than it took you to type your question. Use the search function.

i work at a pet store and we use carefresh for our small animals, personally i don't think snakes would like it as much. i don't like how it looks either. just my thoughts, I like aspen best! good luck! :)
