Poor mans wet hide

Well my poor mans wet hide seems to be working great! What I have been doing is taking the really cheap sponges from Wal-Mart and washing them really well (3% bleach solution) and then wring out rinse and repeat wringing out. I have been letting them dry and wringing them out good a few times. Then when I notice blue then clear I make them moist and place one in a rough hide on warm side and they (snakes) seem to sit on them and then slide over them and rough surface of hide till they pull shed off in one piece. This has worked 100% so far, My big girl "Fang" 5' Snow was always having some trouble even with regular spraying but not any more! Best part is clean sponge and use again for same snake for around 10 sheds then $0.35 more per snake.
Here's a picture of first perfect shed in a long time, boy am I ever happy :)
If you have a lot of snakes it will keep cost down and once I make it moist it stays moist for whole shed!
Ok I am going to try to post Picture of Fangs shed for all to see but mostly because I have been having trouble posting Pictures. Here goes:

It's funny how "on the cheap" you can get and still find a solution to a problem. The biggest concern with sponges is that they are great places for bacteria to grow, but cleaning (as mentioned above) them alleviates that issue. Congrats :*)

p.s. Leave it to a Canadian to use a beer bottle as a point of size reference ;)

Hey cka thanks for congrats!
Yeah cleaning is main thing and I don't share the sponge between snakes!
Oh you noticed beer bottle....lol Not only am I using the cheapest way I can find for wet hide but that's also the cheapest beer we can get here: $24.00/24 beer.
Need to save money to build a rack asap as big reptile expo at the beginning of April and I plan on adopting 6-8 more little friends.
I saw a rack in another thread that pandu built using wood shelves and ready rod. Looks about my speed wood working wise. I need to ask him/her a little about details?
Well good day!

Great idea, Bill. I've never tried your method of "shed-ease". I have a lot of snakes, and rarely have any shed issues, but I may give this a try with my occasional problem-shedder. It will save me the time of cutting paper towels into strips, and moving the snake to another container.

Thanks!

Kathy

No the bottle was my reward for another great shed....well thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it.......lol

You mean you missed the one that just passed Feb 17? jeez, i spent like 1000$! haha, and im going to the one in april, glad to see more reptile keepers close to me!

I don't have edit, but anyways.. if your planning on adding corn snakes, your best selection will be, June/September expo's... For most corns, (up here anyways..) April will still be a little early to have ready to go hatchlings.

Good to know (June/Sept). What was it like for getting 07's year olds?
Like to go a little bigger, closer to breeding age. What were prices like for this age??
And yeah great to see people close to home!!
