Projectile Snake?

Hello everyone,

I will be the first to admit that I don't know much about corns, or snakes in general. I learn something new every day it seems and this forum has been instrumental in my learning. However, tonight something happened that I have never seen discussed before...

Of the three corns I own, one is by far the calmest with a personality more akin to a BP than a corn. Tonight at, lets say 3AM, I went into the dark basement, flipped on a light, and went about folding some clothes that I hadn't got to earlier in the evening (I work thirds and had tonight off).

Thats when one of the corns went ballistic! He shot across his tub (for lack of a better word) like a missile! He was under his hide at first when I heard him moving about a bit. Then he shot out and went for the far end of his tub (corner where lid meets tub). It cannot be described with any word other than violently, as if someone were trying to set him on a lit stove-top.

If he would have done it only once, I may have decided that it was simply that I startled him (despite the fact that I was down there for 5 minutes before he freaked), but he did this 3 or 4 times.

I wondered if it was because of the light since I keep all my snakes on a stringent day/night cycle. However, he was the only one to so much as budge when the light came on (5 minutes afterword at that).

He shed about 4 days ago, but he had no eye cap issues so I doubt thats at all related.

He was on his warm side but his temps are perfectly fine.

What on earth happened? Any thoughts? He seems to have calmed down and settled back under his cool side hide...

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like he was repeatedly startled.

Maybe he launched himself the first time, and then felt pain from launching himself which made him do it again?

Maybe he was having a panic attack?

I would check him over for injuries.
Definitely an easily startle-able snake!
