Question about humidity and digital Hygrometers.

Cycal

Fignuts!
Ok... ive had my new lil buddy for about 2 and half weeks. Life is peachy. He's been eating like a champ, incredibly friendly, and active.
So far he has been like clock work.... however he has yet to shed so im kinnda nervous/excited for that. Im not sure if its wishfull thinking, but i am starting to think his color is dulling and the time may be comming.

Now with all that being said, im realy watching my humidity like a hawk. I was using a cheap dial set for my themo/hygrometers, but recently bought a digital one. Problem is, the new digital one is reading about 20% lower then the old dial one (one reads 30% the other reads 50%). My theory is that the digital one is taking the hydgro reading from the probe under the substrate (aspen) and my dial is taking it from the ambient air (i have it positioned on the substrate in the middle of the viv).

Am i correct in assuming this, or should i go out and by a 3rd one to test the other 2? :shrugs:

you are correct, the digi will only report where the probe is located, much like the dial is.

put the probe right were the dial is, if there is much difference, I'd personally trust the digi before the dial

Depends on what digital one you have, but I think the sensor in mine is not in the probe.

Test them out. Put them in a sealed container with a little water. Put it on the heat mat. The one that reads 100% is the most accurate. :shrugs:

It was super easy to figure out simply by breathing on the probe and then what looked like the sensor on the back of my little unit. Which is where I found the humidity sensor :flames:

Hope this helps.

The humidity sensors in mine are in the units, not the probes. So if you have the unit sitting outside the tank, it is measurint the ambient humidity of the room. You can put your unit inside the tank for several minutes and see if the humidities match.
