Question about the 'Diffused' Trait.

Hey everyone.

So i have decided on breeding my male Snow to my female Blood red in the future, as many of you may have red on previous posts. My goal is to one day breed Avalanche/Granite/Fire. I know in order to get to this end goal, i must first breed my snow (anery/amel) to my blood (diffused) to first get normals het anery, amel, diffused. and i guess my question is here:

In most photo's i have seen of corns with the diffused trait, they show the 'bald' or patternless head, and i am curious, would my F1 (normals with hets) have the patternless head if the diffused trait is present? or will they all just look like plain classics?

thanks!

Nick.

The bald head is actually thought to be a separate gene, called masque, that is commonly found in association with the diffused gene, probably because the original line these genes appeared in were blood reds, which were heavily line bred for a total look that included both masque and diffusion before anyone outcrossed them and figured out that diffusion could be bred into other color morphs. And masque is also a Mendelian recessive, so if you cross snow to diffused you will get all normals het for amel, anery, diffused, and if your blood has the bald head pattern, het masque.

The F2s will look like this:
27 / 256 Masque 66% poss het. Anery, Amel, Diffused
27 / 256 Diffused 66% poss het. Masque, Anery, Amel
27 / 256 Anery 66% poss het. Masque, Amel, Diffused
27 / 256 Amel 66% poss het. Masque, Anery, Diffused
81 / 256 Normal 66% poss het. Masque, Anery, Amel, Diffused
9 / 256 Blood ( Diffused, Masque) 66% poss het. Anery, Amel**
9 / 256 Anery, Masque 66% poss het. Amel, Diffused
9 / 256 Amel, Masque 66% poss het. Anery, Diffused
9 / 256 Fire ( Amel, Diffused ) 66% poss het. Masque, Anery
9 / 256 Snow ( Amel, Anery ) 66% poss het. Masque, Diffused
9 / 256 Granite ( Anery, Diffused ) 66% poss het. Masque, Amel
3 / 256 Avalanche ( Amel, Anery, Diffused ) 66% poss het. Masque
3 / 256 Fire ( Amel, Diffused, Masque ) 66% poss het. Anery
3 / 256 Snow, Masque ( Amel, Anery ) 66% poss het. Diffused
3 / 256 Granite ( Anery, Diffused, Masque ) 66% poss het. Amel
1 / 256 Avalanche ( Amel, Anery, Diffused, Masque )

With apologies to http://www.corncalc.com/ which did all the work! I hope this helps.
