If you put a male and female together, will they just keep producing eggs all year? Or do they need to be kept apart and only put together when mating? Or can a male and female live together all the time?
If you put a male & female together, it is possible that they will keep breeding (and you can only have a certain amount of clutches, per year, so it is not like you would have a clutch, of eggs, every time you turn around). Of course, if the female is not ovulating, she will reject the male's advances.
Also, if you brumate, there will not be any breeding at that time.
This is very unfair, to the female, as it will cause her a lot of ~stress~. Having a cage mate (even of same sex), period, can cause stress but ... a female, with a male cagemate, could cause even greater stress (physically &/or psychologically) for the female.
Point is that, although two snakes (even of same sex) kept together, could create stress, etc., for one or both, snakes, ... a male & female should not be kept together and should only be placed together for breeding purposes.
