Random shedding question

This isn't a question pertaining to any issues with shedding but about the whole shedding process in general.

So I know that before snakes shed they start looking dull as their skin loosens, which makes sense.

What I don't get is why they clear up right before they start to shed. Wouldn't it make sense for them to look more and more dull as their skin gets ready to come off?

I tried googling this answer, but all I got were a bunch of pages telling me why snakes shed. Not very helpful!

Thanks guys!

"ew epidermis is grown beneath the old skin and secretes a thin layer of fluid between old and new skin. The fluid secretion makes the snake almost if not completely blind."

So, I would assume that while blue, the snake is either secreting this fluid or it's something to do with the actual growth of new skin and when it clears, it's the fluid drying and the new skin ready to be revealed! :}

Oooh, sexy! I definitely did not know that bit about the secretion. I guess that explains why the skin is sticky and stretchy right after it comes off.

Yeah, I had heard before from someone on the boards that they secreted...something. I just couldn't remember what it was. Kind of makes sense that it would be a fluid, though, lol!
