Recipe for Lavander?

I read through the history of Lavander (mocha, etc) on Serpanco's website because I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly how the Lav gene fits into everything? It appears it had it's own locus and I think of it more as like another version of "normal" (like Miami's are) although far frome it.

Would making lav stripes be as simple as crossing a stripe normal with a lav and breeding back the babies for a few generations?

I'm really becoming fascinated with the coloring, the eye color variations and of course my unspeakable illness (i.e. love of stripes) gets the wheels turning.

Thanks

Lavender IS on it's own locus, however it's recessive. That means that unless a snake is carrying two copies of the lavender gene, it won't show it.

Lavender is NOT another form of normal. You cannot get a lavender via selective breeding. Lavender is a true recessive color morph.

Since both lavender and stripe are recessive genes, you are correct on how to produce lavender stripes.

Here are a couple of Striped Lavs het Hypo. The male has an unusually high amount of pink coloration.

Showoff!!!!
I was just visually motivating him to reach his goal. Kat already answered his question perfectly. :)

Hey, it took me six years to produce those. They are pretty aren’t they? I was just feeding them yesterday.

I can’t wait to see my first Hypo Striped Lav this year!

oh ecreipeoj, what a beautiful animal. great pic, keep us posted!

Six years? Oye. I might PM you just to see what you crossed back over the years (I'm rookie at this stuff).

That's the animal I want though.

Now all I need is the time, money, patience and room for making and getting some of my own... <sigh>
