Rehoming sucks.

I'm moving half-way across the country, a couple thousand KM, in a couple of weeks and unfortunately that means I'll be forced to rehome my cats. I'm not a fan of the idea, but due to the hassle involved in carting them across the country and the fact that the person with whom I'll be staying is severely catlergic (my own word, feel free to use it) it's pretty much necessary.

I've got three cats, a 'fixed' male and two untampered females. They're house cats, and the females have never had a littler. Haven't been able to even fix the females yet, although they're both about two years old. I live in a VERY rural area and the only vet is a 6 hour drive away.

An older gentleman is coming along in an hour or so to have a look at/pick up the male, whose my favorite :(. He's a very cool cat, full of personality and quite cuddly. If you're standing near and he's looking for a rub he'll reach out and paw at your arm to get your attention lawl

The old guy's whose coming I know to be a good guy, he runs the local homeless shelter with his wife and has pretty much devoted his life to helping people living on the streets. Good guy, I'd be happy if he takes him.

I'm don't like the idea of the 3 cats being separated, they've been together all their lives and are siblings. I'm not sure how strong the bonds that they form with one another are.

Excuse the wall of text.

Opinions? Thoughts? Experiences?

Just to add, I have two dogs as well, but they're fine to come along. They'll be staying with my grandfather until I can find a place that allows legged pets.

My snake isn't an issue either thank heavens.

I'm so sorry...I've been there. I had to separate my babies, but I did keep in touch with the adoptive people, and the cats did fine after a week or so. I think if you can find someone who can give them the attention they'll need during the transition and after, they'll be pretty resiliant for them. I think it's harder for the humans that are left behind. *hugs* Use your gut instincts when finding them a new home, and I'm sure they'll be fine. YOU will be the one that will, unfortunately, have a more difficult time dealing with the separation....which is why you should use all the foresight possible to get them into homes that only you deem acceptable. Best of luck with the re-homing and the move as well.

Thanks :)

We found a home tonight for our male cat, the elderly gentleman I mentioned earlier. I actually see him mostly every day at work so I'll be getting regular updates until we leave in June at least. Just the same, it's difficult and it definitely sucks hard.

Two more to go.. ideally, they wouldn't have been separated, but there really aren't many people looking to take on three adult cats :(
