Rehoming

I have recently re-homed my two snakes, Clancy and Sunny, to a lady with two young sons that has wanted snakes a long time. I am thinking about re-homing my older snake, Erricca but I want to make sure that I gave the other two away correctly before I sell Erricca.

I put an add for them on a local "craigs list" type site and got many calls, until I found someone that sounded like they would take care of them. She had had snakes before, had two sons that would give them plenty of attention and had all the correct heating equipment (I think.)

Anyway, the lady said she wanted them on a Sunday and I told her I could meet her Wednesday to deliver the snakes. I didn't feed them that monday (regular feeding day) and packed them up on tuesday night in tupperware bowls with tight lids with holes. I left them in their over night so they could get conformable. I took them to the lady the next day at 10 am. I just put them in the passenger seat, secured them and left the heater on. I met the lady about 30 minutes away from home, so it wasn't far.

I then loaded the snakes in with the lady, gave her typed up care sheets, got the adoption fee and sent her on her way.

Any mistakes? Any ways to improve Erricca's rehoming experience? IF I end up selling her?

That sounds good to me. A drive is certainly less stressful than a whole plane ride to another town or state. I guess just let her know that Erricca may be stressed because of the move, so it'd be best to leave her along for possibly even a week. A skipped meal wouldn't be a bad idea either.

If they are local, I would go to the person's house to make sure they have everything they need to care for her. Then you can really feel comfortable about where she is going.

Be careful with the heater in the car - just the usual warning that what feels warm to us will be too hot for a Corn. Maybe if you put some towels round their tupperware bowls while they're in the car, that would provide insulation?

Good luck to you. Rehoming is never an easy option, but 99 times out of 100, it's the responsible one.

I re-homed them because I really needed some extra money and I felt like this lady's sons would really enjoy the baby snakes and would keep good care of them. I got $130 for both of them, including cages, so that was nice.

It really wasn't a "responsibility" thing, because I was very responsible taking care of them and didn't sell them just because I couldn't take care of them correctly or what-not. I just needed the extra money, and three snakes where taking up A LOT of room in my already tiny bedroom. I figured I would sell them now before I got too attached so that I can take Erricca (my baby) to college with me and not feel guilty leaving the others behind to practically fend for themselves or give them away after I had become to attached.

But the extra money was nice and I feel good about the home they went to =)

Just found a home for Erricca. The man will pay me 75 for her, and I'm thinking I am going to sell her possibly =(

As long a you're happy that he's a responsible owner who will do right by your lass, then that's the best you can hope for. It's always a tough decision. Good luck.
