My Aunt and Uncle are moving and they are asking me if I would like to take there RES. It is in a 55 gallon tank i'm guessing anuff filtration will have to look into that when I call them back. I don't know if it has any UVB lights with it which is a must right? Also my fience is affraid of the salmonella factor. I don't know if they carry more then snakes do? Last for now is a 55 gallon big anuff for a adult RES? Thanks everyone for your help!

Adult red ears generally need a bigger tank than 55 gal. As well, yes, UVB is necessary for any turtle or tortoise. A great resource for RES care is www.redearslider.com. Good luck!
