Hi

I was just feeding my snake and i noticed something like a hiss, sneeze. I read it could be because he's in blue (which he is) but it could also be an RI.
This is the first time i ever noticed this so could it be possible this sneezing doesn't occur all the times he's been in blue? Or do snakes that sneeze because they are in blue, sneeze before each shed?
Also how can i check for an RI?
I plan on handling him Monday or Sunday to check if he still sneezes.
 
Your best bet at this point is to assume is shed related, unless he/she is showing other signs of RI.

Of the three corns I have, only one has ever sneezed while in deep blue, and she does it every time. Its also possible that it was just a casual, passing sneeze. It happens although your not likely to witness it due to the infrequent nature of such things.

Keep an eye on him/her. If other symptoms surface it may be wise to see a vet. In the mean time I wouldn't worry too much.
 
I "second" what BigByrd47119 said.

Nasal "clicking" sounds, or nasal "hiss sound" (or what can seem like a sneeze although that is not what it really is), etc. can occur during the shed process and it does sound like that is what is going on here. It can also be caused by aspen dust, etc.
After he sheds, just keep an eye on him. If, after shedding, it continues, on a daily basis, ... &/or gets worse, &/or or you see discharge from nose, ... it may be best, then, to take him in to be seen by a vet (to check for RI &/or to rule it out).
 
Thanks both. I keep him on eco earth. I will handle him after his shed to check for the sound, will keep you updated.
 
Mine did the same thing when she was in blue. I thought she was hissing, but it was definitely more of a quick "puff" sound. I've never heard a snake sneeze, so I can't differentiate between the two sounds. I can say my snake hasn't made that sound when she's not about to shed.
 
Update: He just shed and it seems like the hissing/sneezing/call-it-whatever-you-want is gone. I'll feed him tomorrow and check again just before it. I just hope he doesn't eat my fingers again, he's such an aggressive eater.

Glad to hear it!

There is nothing wrong with an aggressive feeder. That is the good kind of aggressive IMO. I have a normal that will throw a FIT when I take her out of the feeding bin! Its hiss this and hiss that with plenty of tail rattling. Its odd though, she only recently developed this behavior. Now its like anything that moves near her feeding bin MUST be a second mouse!

LOL. He was surprisingly calm while feeding. But he didn't develop the aggressive eating habit until last month so it looks like he is (for now) back to his old self.
