Rodentia - rodent rack and contents

Here's my half- full rodent rack and its' contents. Well . . .a representative example of the inhabitants.

I am gonna be getting my gerbils back in there this week, and finishing putting the rackshelves back together so I can get a full 21 tubs in. I'm also gonna finally sit down and put my 5-gallon pickle bucket on there and start using a drip watering system.

But here's my cutsie simple and highly effective rodent rack . . . kind of a high rise for those who like to run about in their own poo . . .

and its inhabitants.

a 1.3 colony, a 1.4 colony [there are 3 more], my mother's colony [splits into new colonies when babies are weaned- excess males are fed off], and my rats.

What brand water bottel is that I tryed laying mine down and it does not seem to feed right
also what size container would you say the minimum for single rat mommys?

Thanks TIM

Hmm- I beleive those are the garden variety hartz bottles from Wal-mart. . . around $2? I had a bunch sitting around here and decided to use those instead of bowls and daily changes. . . just makes ME happier;]

Well if you consider pulling your near-birthing mothers out of a rat colony you could use anything the size of those inverted litter pans I am using for mouse reachability on their food on up . . .that's what we use for the birth-3 week phase for ours and it's a little cramped when the rats get near weaning age, but it works.

Something on the order of a sterilite 1754 would be a bit more adequate I'd think. A little rough to water up but it could be done, and there would be more room vertically for mom to stand up in.
