Scale Problems

Learning has occurred
I just recently adopted a Snow corn from a friend that was about to move and decided he no longer had the space. This corn is a little rough for the wear.

Recently he has contracted some discoloration right behind the crest of the head. It begins right after his mouth and continues for a half an inch. He also gets some brown buildup that looks like it is coming from his mouth, but it just may be his substrate. I have checked his mouth for salivation or any liquid buildup at the corners, but there is none.

The poor guy is in some pretty bad shape and I am doing my best to ween him back to good health.

Here are some photos of the scales in check, i couldn't get a good shot cause he cant stay still for too long.

I got him some reptile wound heal because he also has a dot on his head where it looks like he got attacked by another snake or something.

Any help would be great. I would just take him to the vet, but I am a little short on cash being unemployed at the moment.

Thanks

It’s hard to say from the photo. It looks like it could just be dirt. In any case I would not get too excited about it. Most skin problems resolve themselves with the next shed. If it doesn’t look better after it sheds or if it spreads, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Thanks. Yeah, the photos don't show much, it looks worse in person and its continuing to get worse. He just shed so I guess I will have to wait it out.

OK, next guess is it might be fungal. Does the snake live in wet conditions? Try wiping it with a cotton swab saturated with Isopropyl Alcohol. A couple of applications a few hours apart should show improvement.. But even still unless it really spreads and looks bad, I would not worry at this point.
