sexing a snake

the other day I was walking and I found a garter snake, now I KNOW this is a corn site but I just want to know if you can sex a garter snake the same way as you can with a corn, by looking at the tail. and if you can what would it look like. round then skinny or skinner all the way through. and which one is female and the other male. thanks for any help you can give, I very much apprecate all of the information given to me.
 
I believe you can sex them the same way as corns. I think it's similar. If it tapers quickly, it's a female. I tried to find specifics in my Stebbins guide but there wasn't anything.
 
Males tails are wider after the vent and then taper. Females taper immediately after the vent.
 
well do any of you have pictures of a males tail and a females tail? :shrugs:
becuase i just wouldnt be able to tell.
 
If you don't have the Cornsnake Manual, there are tails posted on here. I'll see if I can find them.
