Shed to Egg?

Just A Beginner

New member
I know the number of days from the pre-lay shed to egglaying is 6-14 days, apparently averaging at 10 days, but is this amount of time quite variable? Do some females lay later/earlier? At what point do you know a female is eggbound if she hasn't started laying?
Thanks.

1. When you see her straining and no eggs coming out.
2. If she prolapses.
3. If she lays some eggs, then doesn't lay the rest in 24 hours.

I can't think of any others right now, but I'm sure someone else can add some ways to tell.

Its justmy female is gravid, I can definately feel eggs, she had her (at least what I thought was) pre-lay shed 15 days ago, but the eggs arent even at her vent yet. I'm confused and worried.

Well, I first detected a slight curving of the scutes and soft rear in January. She is kept in a nice large viv heated with a heatmat and a spotlight, and shared the enclosure with my male. Unfortunately he died on the 20th of february from substrate impaction (aspen, but my snakes have always been fed on newspaper in a seperate enclosure. I had seperated them a few days before whilst I attempted to treat him, but I wasn't sucessful). So if any of the eggs are fertile, I think she must have stored sperm. There is only a small number of eggs I can feel in her.
