Shedding problems

ok my corn shed 3 times now, first time he had a hard time getting his shed off (lot of peices and couldn't remove more than 1/3 of his body), i called at the petshop (it's a petshop specialized in reptiles, dont worry) and theyr said to do a box with a towel and water so he soaks in it and leave him there for an hour. It worked very well the shed came all out.

The second and third time were better. He managed to remove almost everything in one piece except for the last 4-5 inchs where the shed broke, he managed to get some more out but seeing he had a hard time i picked him up to gently manualy remove the remaining shed.

Did i do right ? does manualy removing shed is bad for the snake ?

i'm trying to get humidity up in the viv but it's kinda hard. How do you do those moss boxes ? my moss always dry out pretty quickly and becomes brown ...

Setting up a moss box:

- Find a Rubbermaid or small plastic container with a lid, big enough for your Corn to curl up in.

- Cut a hole in the lid large enough for him to use safely.

- Go round the edge of the hole with an old knife or similar, that you've heated up first. This melts the cut edge slightly so there aren't any sharp edges.

- Half fill the box with damp moss and put the lid on. This stops it drying out so fast.

- Put your moss box into the Corn's viv, midway between cool and warm ends. If you're feeling enthusiastic, have one at each end of the viv to give him a choice.

- Check inside the box daily. Mine seem to use theirs as a handy litter tray at times, so you may need to clean up. Also, you'll notice when it starts to dry out you can just make the moss damp again.

Job done!

P.S. Sometimes difficulty shedding indicates that the temperatures in the viv are a bit too high. What are the temps in the cool and warm ends of your viv?

well the temps are good, i only have one thermometer in the middle and it's the temp stays about the low 80s so i think they are good

But can removing the old skin with my hands harm my snake ? Or else what should i do to remove the last little peices left on the tip of the tail ?
