So three days ago, I had a really awkward dream.

I was dreaming that my ACO called me in the late evening (after the shelters hours), and needed me to come down and help confiscate some snakes and house them until the owners could be charged with abuse (since the situation was nasty).
In this dream, a couple of the snakes were not in their cages and I was looking around for them.

When I woke up, a thought hit me. I hadnt seen Avery, my anery female all day, which is odd as I usually see her at least twice when im goofing around in the bedroom, as shes always curling around her water dish.

So I get up and look around in there, and notice, the lid to her cage is propped open.
Crap.
Im fearing the worst, and the worst has happened. My small, arm length snake is gone. She has gotten out. :crying:

So I go through my room and put down tape on the edges of the walls, basically doing everything I have read on here when snakes escape.

Well last night I was getting ready for bed and my brother comes into the bedroom. Hes like, "You better come see this I dont know whats going on!".. and he runs out.
Im like.. ohhkay... what in the world?

I go in there and see BOTH of my cats surrounding the area around my dogs crate, where theres this little cornsnake.
The first word into my head is a curse word and I run over there, in my PJs and all, and grab her up by the tail, the cats skittering away.

So ive got her and start handling her and wham! She bites the area below my thumb. No blood, but it hurt.
Im like, fine. Youre a bad snake for getting out, shame on you Avery!
I put her back in her cage and shut the lid, putting a rather large book on top of it.

All of my snakes are getting tubs with locking lids tomorrow, as I have to make a trip to the "city", to get mice breeding stock for our colony we are planning.

Still, freaked me out for a few days. Poor baby.

Nice to hear you got her before the cats did and her reaction of biting was probably due to the stress of being out with predators around her. Just give her a couple of days to relax. Also, as corns get older, they do get stronger and are experts at escaping. Make sure that anything you keep them in locks in multiple places. For example, on my 40 gallon breeder tank, I have 8 clips to insure Kitai can't push up a corner or any part of the lid. It might be overkill, but I figure if I can't pry the lid up, she won't be able to either.
