hi, ive got young corn, i have had her since 18th dec, she has been quite friendly and active since i had her, she always takes food, shes on pinkies, she has not shed since i had her, and i handle her daily when she is awake, not when i just fed her though, but for te last two days she has not come out of hide, do you think she may be coming up to her shed time, her eyes still apear clear. or is it we just took xmas tree down that was next to her cage...maybe change...if it continues should i worry,,,,i just built up a relationship with her..i would be gutted if anything was wrong...... :shrugs:

If her belly has checkers it should look like she slithered through ice cream (some snakes show this more than others). The "milky" belly happens a couple days before the eyes turn blue.

Mine is in that phase right now and will hide at ANY chance he gets. He loves to tunnel through the substrate, but he NEVER hides under it (curls up and stays there). He did this the other night when I was cleaning the contents of his tank (I removed everything to clean it and left him in the tank). I came back to a seemingly empty tank so when I noticed he was LOOKING for somewhere to hide (not common for him, as when he tunnels, seconds later he'll pop his head up), I checked the belly. White. (I'll post a pic of I can get a good one).

Ooohhh the excitement! Here's to your baby's first shed!

only prob is she gets stroppy if you take her from hide..but thnx spirit,,,this site is a real help to me...i'll have alook in mornin...will she still take food during shed

sounds like a shed as my amel gets stroppy when in blue mode. As to eating try it and see (before the eyes goes blue) as some will and some wont.

If it's within a few days until he's ready to shed, I always wait to feed (but that's just my personal preference). But like Cornman said, if it's before the blue phase, your snake is still a good 5 or so days away from shedding so it's up to you if you want to attempt feeding or not. Some snakes will refuse, some have no problem, and a VERY small percetange will eat and regurg.

I say if the eyes have hit blue, wait to feed. But again, that's JMO. Here's a pic of Max's belly (just took it a few minutes ago). It looks like it's out of focus (it might be a little), but it's pretty bang on. The black is usually black.

Edit: For comparrison, this pic, he was between the milky belly/blue eye phase (ALMOST back to normal), and still a couple days away from shedding.

I agree spirit if the eyes have gone blue then wait, but anytime upto then it should be safe if he takes it.

Excellant pic spirit, that shows the shed pre blue mode off brilliantly.

AUGUST? Surely that's a mistake? Young corns shed approx every 4 weeks. How old is she, do you know?

I'm glad to hear that she ate! Hopefully she's in shed. Keep up posted. ;)

Maybe you can post a picture? :D

My adult sheds every 10weeks approx, so 5 monthes for a little one? Thats a really long time. Are you sure thats right?

Glad she ate for you though, sounds like your doing everything right. Keep it up and keep us updated.

A pic would be good as well, she sounds a right character.

she is not as young as you might think she was hathed middle of last year..how long does it take to do comp shed..not in blue phase yet...

when the eyes go blue it usually takes up to a week for the shed to compleate, but thats an average, as some take longer and some less.

My Amel took 2weeks from when her eyes went cloudy for her to complete her shed, i didnt notice the underbelly though as she is an amel and it is less obvious. It was a good shed though. At the moment my anery is in the milky stage, eyes changed on wednesday and her belly went pale last week. Will let you know how long she takes.
