Showing Off My New Corn

EsotericForest

Night Shadow
So here are a couple pictures of my new corn, Kiowa. He's a bit of a rescue since I went into Petsmart, and I saw that there was a corn snake for 75% off. I asked why, and it was apparently due to the fact that he's getting too big (He's been there since July, and is close to a year old now), and he tends to be defensive and strike. So I picked him up, and he did tag me at first, but once I had him in my hands he did a bit better. You could still tell he was tense, but at least didn't continue to strike. I got him home, and gave him a day to settle into his nice new 20 gallon long...a big step up from the 2.5 gallon he was in at the store. I've handled him three times since I brought him home, and he hasn't shown any aggression at all. So who knows, perhaps he was mainly stressed from being in such a small enclosure, and having annoying people tapping on his glass every day. So hopefully things keep going well...either way I'm happy to have him.

Regards,
Josh

Grats! actually looks kinda relaxed in the new habitat (do snakes have facial expressions? lol) Corns don't bite, they give you love nips!
I'm sure it'll get tons better care with you than a pet store :)

He does look quite content. If he survived a year at the pet store, he's got to be a hardy little guy. I'm sure he'll enjoy his new home and hopefully won't show his appreciation with too many 'love nips' (like that one Omni).

Nice little amel! I think he's about to shed. Please post pics when he has shed!

Awww well it's good he is in your hands now. I don't think I would be able to resist taking him in either. Cute little one, he does look like we is in blue, might want to make sure the humidity is up in the viv.

Yeah I noticed that he looked close to a shed as well...hasn't yet but I have been trying to keep a decent humidity so it goes well. I had at least three employees, one of which was a manager, actually THANK me for taking him off their hands. Had to say, when that happened I was a little worried about what I may have gotten myself into. But like I said, ever since I've gotten him home he's been perfectly fine. I almost feel like I completely ripped off Petsmart hehe ;).

Regards,
Josh

He's a very well behaved snake, and not easily frightened either. It's amazing how dramatic and quickly his behavior changed from the first time I handled him.

Well, you are awesome for purchasing him. I believe animals show gratitude when they know you have helped them. This case poses no differently. Congrats on a beautiful snake!

Huh! I shoulda tried to barter with Oscar, he's probably an '08, maybe even an '07, and I bought him for full price and didn't really even think about doing that because it was close to closing time.Having worked in a retail store before, I know customers shopping or trying to argue right before closing time was always annoying, so I just bought him and skedaddled!

I've always wanted an amel, you found a nice one and even for a good price! Good save! :)
