My cornsnake is 2 feet long. She eats fuzzies and still maintains a slight bulge in her stomach after swallowing. I'd like to bring her up to small adults or full sized adults but I'm not sure when she would be big enough to swallow them (all frozen ofcourse). She's slightly thinner than an adult mouse. In the REPTILES magazine January 1999 issue it shows a picture of a 3 foot cornsnake swallowing a rat claiming that this is the "upper limits" of what it can swallow. So, surely my 2 footer could swallow a mouse right? Well, I'm not sure. I don't know if she could get her jaws fully around a mouse. Any opinions, help, personal experience (the best I find) would be awesome! Oh, I put the REPTILES mag picture as the attachment if anyone would like to see what I am talking about. Thanks!

I don't think she would have any trouble swallowing the mouse but if it is too big she will regurgate (sorry for spelling mistakes) it. I recently brought up Akasha's weekly amount from one to two pinkies and she always seems hugry after but i can't feed her bigger food cos she is a really thin (can't feel any bones - not due to under feeding) snake so i try to feed her more maybe more often instead of bigger food.

Thanks for the reply. See, the reason this is of interest to me is because here in Newfoundland, Canada there is one main pet store called "Pet city". And they routinely run out of pinkies and fuzzies but never out of adults. It costs me a little over $20 for 12 pinkies and she eats 3 or more in a feeding twice a week. The adults are only like $5 and under so it would allow me to feed her once a week for much cheaper prices. And I call her "her" because that's what I was told the sex was. "She" looks more and more like a "He" every passing day.

your corn should have little trouble with an adult mouse, however the word adult can be confusing. For example, at 11 weeks(what I would call an adult) is still quite smaller than a 15 month old breeder. What they are physically capabale of consuming isn't always the best for your snake. Stick with 1-1/2 times larger than the thickest part of your snake. With the right temps the lump should not be visible after about 48 hours. I included a pic of a rouge snake that raided the mouse rack. This was definetly more than it should have eaten.

she may be able to....

Seeing that snake that ate much more than it should have pretty well helps convince me that mine could pull it off without much trouble. My snake no longer has a lump in it for more than a couple hours after eating a particularly large fuzzie or numerous pinkies. After her next shed, which should be in the next week or two, I'm going to give her small to mid-sized mice. I'm confident that now would be a good time to start.
