Slightly thawed pinks ok to re-freeze?

Hi all, I went today and bought a fresh supply of frozen pinks for my hatchling as well as a few adults for my new 6-year old. It was fairly warm in the truck when I went to leave and though I wrapped up the plastic bag as best I could and then hurried home (about 20 mins), when I went to put the bag in the freezer I noticed a bit of moisture on the inside and though everything still was cold it felt a little soft. I put them right into the freezer but I'm wondering if warming up and then re-freezing them poses health risks for my snake. The adults were fine because of their bigger size and as far as I could tell the pinks were still cold and at least partially frozen, should I play it safe and get new pinks? Or would they still be ok to use?

I think they will be totally fine. I would be wary if they had completely thawed out and weren't cold anymore, but a little defrosting is okay.

I think they should be fine, since it was still a fairly direct trip to get them home to the freezer.

In the future, I would maybe consider bringing a cooler along for transport when you buy your mice. While I think that what you described is still fine, it's still best to keep them as frozen as possible. :)

My thoughts exactly :). Next time I will bring along a cooler bag. I had thought of doing so before but this time wasn't a planned trip, I just stopped in because I happened to be at that end of town.

There ya go. :D Sounds like you are all set.

With the miserable heat we've had this summer, I've taken to keeping a cooler in the back of my car for all trips... in case I randomly stop for mice or at the grocery store for perishables... Nothing survives the car well with the heat we've been having. :/

That happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I, too, was worried, but I had no regurges with any of the feedings. When I went to my local show an hour away to get more at a better price, I brought an insulated lunch box with several ice packs.

I like the idea of keeping a cooler in the car for spur of the moment trips.
