Snake got out

Brizzle

Craziness
Hey everyone. I haven't really posted here in forever since I really had no reason to. But just now I came across something which really makes me angry.

I went downstairs to do whatever, and notice my cats surrounding something on the ground. I go over to look, and what do you know. Kaa was there on the ground and my cats were just pawing at him. At first I thought he was dead since he wasn't moving, but when I picked him up he wrapped his tail around my hand. I put him back in his cage right away. While doing this I was noticing how the cage was half open. I have no idea how it was opened. I always double check to make sure it's closed. So I have a feeling it was my boyfriend who I will have to have a serious talk with about that when he comes home. :angry01:

Anyway, I'm worried about him. He's barely moving, as if he's paralyzed. He's like in total shock. Can a snake die from this? He's not his little flighty self wanting to get everywhere. I set him down in his cage and he's just sitting there. He doesn't look like he's injured. I just hope he'll be okay.

I'm really sorry to hear this. Its never fun when a snake gets out.

As to the snake - I think he's prob just VERY stressed - which you can't blame him. Leave him alone if you are positive that he's not hurt. Quiet and peace will make him feel better. Although, not to be a downer but they could have crushed him a little and he might be hurt internally.
If he doens't seem to get better soon then you should take him to a vet.
I hope everything works out ok!

I am sorry to hear this.

I hope he is ok. If you can look without picking him up, see if you can see any puncture woulds. Cats can do some major damage. If he doesn't appear to have any wounds, I would let him have plenty of privacy to recover.

I took him out and looked at him closer. He does have a couple wounds and the end of his tail looks raw. There's 2 wounds on him that look like they may have been bites and you can see the muscle under. I don't know if I should take him to the vet or let him recover by himself. I'm not sure the vet can do anything. What do you guys think?

I have never had this happen, but I have read a few post about it. Most the time, if there is not organ damage, most people just replace there substrate with paper towels and put antibiotic ointment on the wound and just watch the snake carefully.

Does he seem to be moving better now?

Yeah he's moving around now. I saw him drink water so that's a good sign. I'll change the aspen to paper towels till he heals. What antibiotic ointment should I use?

Great. Thank you.

Also, how long should I wait till I feed him again? Tomorrow is feeding night and I'm not going to give him anything.
