Hi,

My baby Honda never comes out of his hide, he is about 3 months old and the only time i have ever seen him come out is to go to his other hide, and he only ever seems to drink just after i feed him. im worried, i handled him the first week that i got him, lack of knowledge. the things is though he seems happy to have me touch him pick him up handle him, he's never bitten me or ever shown signs that he ever wanted to bite me. the temprature in his cage is 23 degrees (C) 73 degrees(F) air temprature, and above his heating pad its about 28-30.

any comments or information will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like normal corn behavior to me. They hide most of the day, and come out in the late evening or at night.....sometimes. If they are out during the day a lot something is wrong. If your snake is thermoregulating by moving from one hide to the other, that is good.

First, your temperatures are really low. Second, corns are nocturnal, so you can expect him to be out during the night.

I meant Farenheit.
That was what the OP specified for the cool side. They specified 28-30C (82.4-86F) for the warm side. This is fine. R E A D - S L O W L Y - B E F O R E - R E P L Y I N G.

Corns are secretive animals, and they're crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk) to nocturnal. They can be a poor choice if you want a pet that you can observe all the time...

Ooops. If only everyone used celcius.... We silly Americans had to go off and be different.

Sorry to the OP for being off-topic.

Thanks For all the response, the low temprature is the ambiant temprature of the cage, 22 degrees (Celcius) and just on the substrate on the warm side its between 27-31(celcuis), depending on how warm it is in my room, thank you for all the help everyone who responded, sorry about all the confussion.

Its not that i want to see him all the time, i know all snakes like hiding away, some more than others, i was just worried that maybe he was afraid or his surrounding arent exactly what he wants. by the way how do you guys keep your humidity right, do you use spray bottles in the enclosure? or is this not needed, he has a large water dish

hehe, yeah thats what I thought. I wonder if it ever gets below freezing anywhere in south africa.

Very, VERY rarely! It gets very cold here in winter though but not "snowing" cold...lol

Nice to see yet ANOTHER South African on the forum! WELCOME!!!! :dancer: We are slowly taking over!

Corns need very little humidity. Unless they have problems shedding, spray bottles etc etc are not necessary in our climate.

Yes we are rare here at cornsnakes.com, but like the mumble mosquito, we will soon rule the world.:bang: or something like that. im pretty new to keeping snakes but i know a bit, not so much about caring for them more about the different species. so i figured it be better that i ask and make sure that everythings perfect. im getting a new baby today, a female, prob a normal.

btw, i begto differ, my car got covered with snow last winter. i have a green golf and it was white as well snow i guess... :spinner:

hehehe There are more of here than you think! :D Still, nice seeing new faces from home!

Congrats on your new babies! Hope you have lots of fun with them!

well thats refreshing to hear, every other forum i'v seen you find one or two people form SA, you have a nice collection btw. if you live in gauteng where do you buy you snakes?

Hi there!

I buy all my snakes from Chantel in Pietermaritzberg, her snakes are the best and she breeds with only the best imported stock. She also happens to be my very best friend. :) I get them couriered up to Pretoria. :)
