Snake prefers cool side of viv?

Hi all, so my viv (10gal critter keeper) is set up with aspen substrate, hides on the warm and cool side and of course a water dish. My warm side stays approximately 85F and the cool side stays between 75-77F. I notice Floyd seems to spend more time on the cooler side burrowing into the aspen, I don't see him as much on the warm side. He ate a pinky on Sunday and when I handled him yesterday (Wednesday) evening the food lump was gone so I think he is digesting properly but I'm just curious if it is normal/healthy for him to prefer the cool side? He should be smart enough to know to go to the warm side when he needs to, right? Also he has a fake vine in the middle that he likes to climb and provides some cover when going from one end to the other.
