snake viv/ fish aquarium combo

So I just got back into aquaria and set up this 29 gallon freshwater planted community tank, and I put my 5 year old corn, Sal, on the bottom for a very nice looking display :) any thoughts, comments or suggestions? He does have a cardboard hidebox, but I took it out for this picture, so I am going to have to try to find something more visually appealing, maybe a terracotta pot or something.

hmmm, looks like there's room for another viv in the middle!

lol, yes I pointed this out to my husband, who wants to get a milksnake, but he pointed out that another aquarium would cover the screen and block air, so I am not sure how I would put it up there. I could start with a hatchling and use a 10 gallon :)

people keep corns in tubs, where the space between the top edge of the tub is 1/8" from the shelf above. So there probably is room there for appropriate air flow.

or.....

If hubby is handy, tip the tanks on thier sides and custom build hinge doors (plastic on bottom, screen on top) this makes for both front opening tanks and more floor space, which is great for corns. And who knows, you may be able to fit 3 vivs with the aquarium on top if done in that fashion.

hubby, handy... Rofl. he's a good man, and he has a lot of great qualities, but he does not like to 'build' things. Me on the other hand, I have put together every piece of furniture in this house and fix most minor household things. Otherwise, we call a professional. I really like the idea of making a hinged door, but won't it make it harder to see and make the display look weird?

Some hinged doors made for aquariums turned on their side do look more utilitarian than necessary. I have seen some though that are well made and very clear. I think there's a post in the DIY forum on making them.

he he he, we got another snake

So we got a new snake, a Mexican milksnake from glades herp farm in bushnell, fl. We also got to meet the "swamp brothers" which was pretty cool. The little guy is small right now so I have him in a 10 gallon. But I am thinking a second 20 gallon viv will look very nice right there. :D

Sweet setup! And snakes too! I am jealous of your handsome little milk snake. Does the Okeetee have a hide?

yes the Okeetee has a large terracotta pot as a hide, it wasn't in in the picture because I had just finished cleaning the cage. He also has an oak tree branch for climbing. He does love to burrow in the aspen though, now I use shredded aspen which he likes better than the chips.
