Snakes being a bit grouchy?

TheJadeReptile

My Little Sunshine
So both my females corn snake have been a bit more grouchy this March and April. Sunshine rattles thr tail at me more and tried to strike at me. Is it because it is time for love. I got Nessy out today to feed her. And she has moved her aspen to where she can wrap around it like a clutch of eggs. Is it because I don't hold them every day after they digest their meal?!

How old are they? It is probably just because it is that time of year. Everyones hormones are going crazy.

Double-check the temps in the tanks at both the warm and cool ends - they can get a bit irritable if it's too hot for them and they can't escape into a suitably cool spot. If that's OK, then I'd agree that it's either probably just the time of year, or they've synchronised their shedding schedules and are both about to go blue.

Normally calm Corns won't suddenly get bad-tempered if they aren't held for a couple of days after eating, don't worry about that. I don't handle mine for a couple of weeks at a time and the calm ones are still calm.

And I have a male that tail rattles everytime you reach into his viv. But he never attempts to strike or even go into an S curve. I think sometimes they do it out of excitement. As he is ever hopeful he is going to be put with another female right now. And one of my females tail rattles every time she feeds even if no one is there to watch. Hence why I think it might be just a sign of excitement.
At least with her I know she has found the mouse and grabbed it. :)

Temps are fine. Nessy is about 4 years old. Sunshine maybe a year old by July or August. Not sure, I got her from Petco in October.

I figured out why they are being so grouchy. It is SHED time for them.

thats prolly it! Or you could smell like a snack :p
I try to use the same hand sanitizer every time i pick mine up, getting tagged because I smelled like my dog one day, and scared the balls outta me!

Dorgrim, most defiantly the shed. Nessy shed. I got her out and she was excited about getting out. Sunshine just turned blue.
