Snakes on Craigslist... Geez.

I've been practicly living on Craigslist the last few weeks, trying to find a cheep place to rent with two bedrooms (so I can convert one into a snake room. hehehe).

So today I randomly typed in the word "snake" and sent a search out.

In my general area there were about ten entries for people selling Ball Pythons, Corns, and a hatchling sized King that was supposed to be 15 months old.

Geez, people. It's... sad.

Of course I know that things come up and I know that snakes are hardly the only animals sent for adoption when lives change... but a snake isn't a dog. It can be more or less ignored in the worst situation, except for the weekly feedings and the cleaning of the cage. It's not too hard to spare a little room on the top of your nightstand or whatever for a cage.

I shouldn't have looked. It makes me want to take them all in. :(
 
I know - I try to stay away from craigslist and such - even on the Facebook market they have them. Its bad.
I always want to give them all a home!
 
See, my situation is almost exactly the opposite. I search Craigslist looking for snakes, and the only one I have ever found is a guy who wants a ridiculous "adoption fee" for a normal BP he doesn't even want. One of those people that was clearly looking to make a sale, not adopt out an animal.
 
I search facebook and craigslist as well. I agree with the ridiculous "adoption fees", but my hogg island I got from a guy in my area that breeds them and advertised on facebook's marketplace as well as other REPTILE auctions. I'm guessing he just used it to avoid shipping and its free advertisement. I couldn't be happier with my Hogg. If I could find a free snake somewhere that hasn't been neglected, I might just take it in, so long as its not 7 ft long and is somewhat tame.
 
Ditto on the "adoption fees". I have seen BPs "adoption fees" that were twice what a normal sells for from a breeder and even more than what one sells for in a pet store. I often wonder if they know how common a nomal BP is.
 
I do the same thing. Search out craigslist. 1. I figure if the adoption fee is reasonible I can take in the animal, rehab it and then find it a good home. But most people want an arm and a leg for the animals they don't want anyway.

I do this more with parrots now then the snakes. It is really crazy!
