Snow corn good eater

Hi, well, I've fed my new snow corn twice now, and both times he's taken the pinky really easilly. I'm thinkong that he actually might be hungry and just one pinky is not enough. I'm am going to try him on two the next time I feed him, and see how he gets on.

You have to remember that snakes are opportunist eater and that when they have eaten the first food item, they are still on eating mode.

What you have to look for is the lump after feeding him one item. See how long it takes for the lump to disappear and if it is gone by 24/48hrs, then you can give him a second one. If after 24/48hrs the lump is gone with two pinkies, you can bring the size up but only one, and so on for each size.

If the lump is still there after 24/48hrs and you give him a second pinkie anyway, you would do what is called "power feeding" which, yes, will make him grow faster but it is not good for them.

Hi, thank you for your message. I have been looking out for how quickly the lump dissappears, and its gone and he's pooped in just over a day. I read somewhere on here about power feeding, and I don't want to do that. I get this feeling that he's hugry because when he's fed, he's not so quick to strike, by day 4 after a feed, he's striking and tail rattling again. I don't go and disturb him very much at all, just to make sure the water is ok, and the cage is clean. I've heard some people say to try give him two pinkies in one sitting, is that a good idea or do you think I should feed one but every 3 or 4 days instead of 5?

Hi and you are very welcome!

From what I guess, there are several issues here which are not quite related.

If the lump is gone in just one day, then yes, you need to go to 2 pinkies. With 2 pinkies, I would say 4-5 days and two at the time is fine.

Striking and rattling is not related to being hungry but he is using it as a defense mechanism because he is scared of your hand.

What I can make out from what you wrote, you do not handle your snake often. If you only got him a few days ago, it is good that you give him time to get used to his viv and a good week should be a good amount of time. Then I would suggest that you handle him a bit more. One session of ten minutes per day to start with depending on how long you have had him.

The rattling and striking, in most cases, will disappear with handling and the way you pick him up. Mine stopped rattling when I just opened the viv and grabbed her but I made sure she saw me/my hand before so she doesn't get started. Some say that picking them up from under is working on their snakes so that they do not see it as a threat and do not see your hand as a prey but it didn't not work for mine but all snakes are different.
