Some basic questions that I need answers to

Just wondering, I feed my corn snake 1 fuzzy a week but I think I might have to up the amount I give her now. She's a bit under 3 feet long. Also what temperature should I keep her during the day and night now? I live in Yorkshire in the UK and it's winter at the moment (I mention this because obviously it'll be different temperatures in different countries in the winter, also some of you lucky buggers will be enjoying your summer now :) ).

And one last thing that's been bothering me a bit today. I've been playing guitar all day in my bedroom and whenever I look over to her she's in the place she likes to snuggle up at but today she's always looking up. She's leaning the underside of her on the wall and looking straight up. I hope the problem goes soon but what could this be?

Thanks for reading through this n00by post. :)

Hi Jamie!

I would definitely be up-ing her food size if I were you. When my girl was around 3 feet she was eating at least hoppers. However, the best way to tell what size food she should be eating is to try to find a prey item that is 1.5 times a big around as the thickest part of her body. Some snakes are slimmer that others, so that is usually the best way to go.

I'm not really sure what you are asking in the second part of your post, but I think you are concerned about your snake climbing the glass? This is fairly normal behavior for corns (and a lot of other snakes), as they like to look for ways to escape. Your corn probably does this mostly when you are sleeping, but it looks like she was up during the day with you today. This occasionally happens, and you probably have nothing to worry about. It could be something as simple as she felt the vibrations of your guitar playing, and came out to investigate.

Hope that helped a little. :)

Oops! I missed your temperature question. I would still try to keep the temperature in the normal range of 73-83 degrees F (sorry can't do the F to C conversion in my head today). That is, unless you are looking to brumate her, in which case someone else could probably give you a better answer than I could. Good Luck!

Yeah, um, a 3 foot cornsnake should have been past fuzzies oh......probably 20 inches ago. As long as your snake isn't pencil thin, it should be on adult mice. You could give it a hopper or two for a few feedings to get it used to bigger prey items, but one fuzzy a week for a 3 foot snake isn't enough food to grow.
